March 12th, 2023: Robotics, The Effects Of Daylight Savings, And Life
Today was a pretty productive day.
Today our Robotics Meeting was held at the Spartans (FRC 971) once again, so many thanks to the Spartans.
Today we divided up into 3 teams, one on constructing the bumpers, which I was on, one team on brainstorming and designing our tower and arm system, and one on using a lathe to create pieces for our gripper and tower. I was part of the bumper team, and as far as I can tell, and for what we could do and what time we had, we got a lot done. We attached all of the fabric onto the wood and pool noodles, which took a long time since we were throttled at only one working stapler gun and two pairs of scissors. We were able to install some brackets, but we needed to purchase a different kind since we the corner braces that we already had didn't correctly fit with the margins on the robot. When we left the Spartans, we went to a hardware store to purchase the new corner braces. Some of the backing on the fabric also melted when we were ironing, so we spent some time ripping it out and repairing it.
The rest of the team talked about how our final arm would look like. Some other members were using the Spartans' lathe to custom cut some metal.
At the very end of the meeting, we took a detour as a club to a local hardware store to purchase the new braces. It was sort of fun, just going out to town to buy stuff as a team. It was also kind of nerdy, a group of kids, going to a hardware store.
I thought that Daylight Savings would make me sleep past my normal waking time, but I actually woke up at 6 o' clock instead of 7. Daylight Savings is pretty annoying, but hopefully it won't exist soon.
Anyways, my time is being completely occupied by robotics, so that will be occupying most of the space on the blog for now, until competition day. Then, we'll be taking a break from robotics, since we're all pretty tired. Hopefully, we'll still be participating in some off-season events as well!
