November 14th: Robotics Recruitment Event and Cross Country Practice
Today was alright.
During lunch break time, the Robotics team leads held an event to recruit women and non-binary people in STEM. We did a quick introduction to the club and the event, then people were divided into groups and they did some fun activities relating to all of the different sub-teams. For the programming team, their activity was to give instructions on how to make a sun butter and banana sandwich, then they would compare their instructions, and they would vote on the best instruction between themselves, which I would then execute. This simulates the task of a programmer, which is like giving instructions to a programmer. However, one must be explicit to a computer, which was the nuance in the activity. Anyways, it went pretty smoothly. I forgot to bring a plate, but that was OK, since there were paper towels. Hopefully this got people excited to join the Robotics team!
Anyways, in Cross Country practice, we did a shortened warm up due to sunlight, then we did 2 mile repeats. I did OK in my first one, but I did horribly in my second one (10 minute mile) because I ate right before I ran. After that, we did a cool down, and then our coach gave us an inspirational presentation to help those competing in the final race tomorrow, which includes the Girl's Varsity team and Dario K, the top runner in our Boy's Varsity team.
