October 18th: Cross Country Race
Today was alright.
Today we ran at MLK Shoreline. We got there pretty early, at around 1:30, so we had the time to walk around the course. In total, we walked 1 mile into the course, then we had to walk back, so we walked 2 miles. Then, 30 minutes before the Boy's Varsity race began, we started warming up.
The roads on the course were very constricted and narrow. The Boy's Varsity race began at 3:00 PM. It was around 90 degrees, so it was really hot. The shoreline was also humid, and the air was salty. I ran around an 8 minute mile for the first mile. Then, I slowed down a lot and I ran around a 9 minute mile for my second one. Then, I ran a at an 8' 30" pace for the third and final mile. I think I could've ran a lot faster, but it was just so hot and humid.
Anyways, I finished at 27th place, with a time of 25' 57", which I'm still proud of. I really hope for the next race I can run at 8 minutes for the first 2 miles, then a 7 minute mile for the last mile.
Anyways, for the next season, I really want to lower my time. My personal goal is to get around 23 minutes for a 5k, which I think (and I hope) to achieve.
Unfortunately, the Junior Varsity race was cancelled, apparently as a result of the hot heat. I hope they can make up the race!
