February 1st: First of February and Broken Laptop
Today was OK.
It's the first of February today. Happy Black History Month! Hopefully this month goes well. I want more sleep.
I got to go home early today because our advisor, Mr. K, was using his room to hold an hour of code for extra credit. I didn't want to go because I wanted to take the break.
When I got home I got to work attempting to fix my laptop. The parts came in to fix the display. I hadn't written it in past blogs, but when I was taking off the display cable, I managed to mess up the wiring and uncovered the shield, so it stopped working when I turned it on. I bought a new display cable and it arrived today so I got to work fixing it.
I opened it up and I replaced the cable but it the backlight was still dead. I got out my grandfather's multimeter but everything was fine. So therefore, I've come to the conclusion that when I turned on the laptop with the messed up cable, some integral wires were out, so that might've broken the backlight of the display.
I decided to reflect on how much money I've poured into this 13 year old laptop. As it turns out, I've poured 147$ on trying to make the laptop "good enough." So, I'm deciding to give up on this garbage because it's not worth it anymore. I'd rather save and spend some cash on getting a cheap modern-day laptop than trying to fix that stupid thing again. Literally any low-mid range laptop from Costco would perform better than getting my old laptop to work, despite any of the upgrades I performed.
I put everything related to the laptop in a garbage bag, and now it's sitting in the corner of my room, waiting to collect dust.
