January 14th: Lunch With Grandma and Fixing My Laptop
Today was not bad.
At noon I went with my grandma to the local Chinese Restaurant to have lunch, We had rice noodles, some dim sum, and some chicken wings. It was very good. Afterwards, we went to the supermarket to buy some groceries, then we went home.
After I got home I fixed my laptop. All of the parts had arrived a couple days earlier, but I was too busy to actually use them to fix up my laptop. Since I finished all of my homework and I didn't have to attend a robotics meeting today, I fixed my laptop. First, I took apart everything to reach to CPU. When I was stress testing the CPU after the fan broke, the CPU had to shut itself down to prevent any additional damage, but I'm paranoid that there was probably something broken, so I'm replacing the CPU. In fact, I'm upgrading the CPU from an i5-2430M to an i5-2450M. It's only a .10ghz difference. Hopefully I save up enough money to buy the best CPU for my laptop, the i7-2640M, which on eBay, just costs around 20 dollars.
Anyways, since the fan broke, I also replaced the fan. The model is different, but I'm not exactly sure what the differences in cooling are. Hopefully it's better! I still want to see the graph of the stress test temperatures.
Tomorrow there's a robotics meeting, hopefully we're very productive!
