July 24th: Homework, Bolt, and The Truman Show
Today, I forgot to set an alarm, so I slept very late.
I wanted to do a lot more homework today, but I was very distracted by movies and meetings today! I ended up doing enough.
In the afternoon, I finished watching the movie Bolt, released in 2008. It's about a dog, named Bolt, who had been living in a television set his whole life, that finally experiences the real world when he is accidently shipped out across the country. There, he learns more about the real world, and slowly understands the façade that was his life as he ventures back to Hollywood, California, to reunite with his owner, Penny.
I think the movie is very enjoyable with the right mindset. I say this, because there are very important aspects of the plot that rely on stupidity and ignorance. Specifically, Bolt being unaware of reality. If you can't take the joke that relies on stupidity, I don't think that this movie is for you. However, if you immerse yourself in with the characters, I think that the film is very lighthearted and has a nice inclusion of family values and true platonic love and connection with another person. The animation is a bit dated for the current age, but it isn't an aspect that is too distracting for the viewing pleasure.
In the evening, I started and finished watching the movie, The Truman Show. It's about Truman Burbank, and individual whose life has been broadcasted to the world since he was born in a television set. After realizing the discrepancies in his life, he attempts to break out of his false reality.
Wow. I've only ever heard about this movie. I thought it was an actual show. Yet, when I saw it recommended on YouTube, I knew that I had to watch it. I'm so glad I did! The plot is so fresh in this era of repeated values and clichés. Truly, I don't think I've heard anything like it before. It really points towards our current reality, and about how manufactured it is to cause us to take specific actions. When Truman (Jim Carrey) finally escaped his reality, I was overjoyed, like the viewers of the Truman Show, of the happy ending. The film is extremely well crafted, and the planned discrepancies caused me to be suspicious, yet I was still so immersed with the film. Rarely, do I watch films since I can't pay attention too well, but for The Truman Show, I really wanted to finish and keep watching it. The film is a bit darker, as it is a depressing reflection of containment, but it's really interesting as well.
I hope I become more productive.
Thanks for reading,
